Annual Palliative Care Pilot Program

The Palliative Care Pilot Program (PCPP) was created through Senate Bill 294 (Chapter 515, Statutes 2017) to expand palliative care services. Hospice care has been limited to terminally ill patients who have agreed to forgo curative treatment. The PCPP permits hospices to provide palliative care to patients with a serious illness. "Serious illness" is defined in HSC 1747.3(k), as a condition that may result in death, regardless of the estimated length of the patient's remaining period of life.

Licensed hospices participating in the Palliative Care Pilot Program (PCPP) are required to complete and submit a Palliative Care Pilot Program Data Report pursuant to Health and Safety Code section 1747.3(d), through the California Department of Public Health's reporting website. This report is due annually, on or before April 30.
